About SS-31

SS-31 is a synthetic tetrapeptide designed to target the inner mitochondrial membrane. In preclinical and laboratory studies it has been investigated for its interaction with cardiolipin, a phospholipid essential for mitochondrial structure and function, and explored in models of mitochondrial bioenergetics, cellular metabolism, oxidative stress and age-related mitochondrial change.

Handling & storage

Supplied as a lyophilised powder to maintain long-term stability. In laboratory settings it may be reconstituted using bacteriostatic water or another suitable solvent in accordance with established research protocols. Gently swirl to dissolve; avoid vigorous shaking.

Store unopened vials in a sealed container in a cool, dark and dry environment, protected from light and moisture.

After reconstitution, store at 2–8°C. For extended storage, aliquot and freeze at −20°C, avoiding repeated freeze–thaw cycles.

Research areas of interest

Preclinical and laboratory investigations have explored SS-31 in relation to:

  • Mitochondrial function: mitochondrial membranes and cellular energy production.
  • Cellular bioenergetics: ATP production, mitochondrial efficiency and energy metabolism.
  • Oxidative stress: reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress regulation.
  • Cardiovascular research models: mitochondrial function within cardiac tissue.
  • Skeletal muscle research: muscle bioenergetics, endurance physiology and cellular recovery.
  • Healthy ageing & cellular function: age-related mitochondrial changes and cellular resilience.
